Starting YOUR OWN show
When Lachlan McGowan moved to Townsville, his brother and a bunch of other locals were talking about forming a club, as there was no formal trail or enduro outfit in the area. Lachlan was stunned.
“Look at all this magnificent land to ride in,” he said. “It’s brown, dry, sandy (and full of Wait-a-While they forgot to mention) with rocks everywhere, perfect for mousse tubes, but we have no racing, WTF? I need another beer.”
It wasn’t long before Lachlan met the other dirtbike-mad Townsvillians and they began to form a bond that can only grow in the dirtbike world. One thing led to another and he and his bro later helped form the Townsville Enduro Club Inc. The way in which the TEC was formed is not uncommon. Clubs all over the country have been started by small and passionate groups who are looking for places to ride and events to ride in. But taking those first steps to forming and then growing a club are challenging.
There is no simple recipe and each dirtbike discipline and area will require a different approach. But, for the most part, if you have the right ingredients you can work out the recipe as you go and be on your way to building your own rent-a-crowd of dirtbike mad mates.
