Comfort and speed
Please excuse the handwritten letter, but I still live in the dark ages when life was simpler as were motorcycles. I don’t have a computer or a smart phone and I still write letters.
I have been pondering whether to send Fred photos of my first bikes. My nostalgia was stirred when I saw the centrefold of AMCN Vol 69 No 24 of Geoff Duke on the Manx Norton. That was my era of motorcycle competition. I met him at the February 1955 race meeting at Mount Druitt in western Sydney when he came here on the Gilera. He signed my program and I still have it as a souvenir, I rode in the Junior Clubman’s race.
If Wayne Maxwell and Glenn Allerton had British passports they might have a WorldSBK seat for life
My first motorcycle was a 1951 Triumph TR5 which I used for everything; racing of all sorts, sporting trials, gymkhanas and courting my wife of now 62 years – hence the sprung seat, a bit of comfort catches them
