Access: The A4069 road is generally clear, but in heavy snow the top sections are likely to be covered quickly.

Start at the historic limekilns, with ample parking. There are numerous paths weaving in and out of the quarries, which can be a fun outing in itself, especially with children. However, for a good-quality winter walk, continue upwards in a SE direction to the cairn at Garreg Lwyd (616m). From here,
