Obituaries

STEVE ALLEN, who was selected by the Tigers in the 16th round of the 1967 draft but never played in a pro game, died Nov. 3. He was 70.

JACK ALTMAN, a lefthander who pitched in the minor leagues in 1956, died July 31 in Oregon. He was 85.

WILLIAM BALDWIN, who played in the minor leagues in 1956, died Oct. 20 in Byfield, Mass.

TIM BARKER, a shortstop, second baseman and outfielder who played in the minor leagues in 1989 and the 1990s, died Oct. 29 in West Ocean City, Md. He was 52.

JULIO BECQUER, a pinch-hitter and first baseman who played in the major leagues for seven seasons with the Twins and Angels, died Nov. 1 in Hopkins, Minn. He was 88. Becquer posted a .244/.276/.352 slash line with 12 home runs and 114 RBIs in 974 at-bats.

AL BLAKE, a catcher who played in the minor leagues in the 1960s, died Sept. 10. He was 80.

JOHN BRIDEWESER, who played in the minor leagues in 1957, died Oct. 28 in Pittsburgh. He was 85.
