Well-reefed adventures
Greetings from America. Since our local library began providing digital access to international periodicals, I’ve become an avid reader of Yachting Monthly
The impression one gets from your magazine is that sailing is a passion accessible to folks with a bit of initiative and resourcefulness.
The majority of American sailing publications give a different impression: sailing is a luxury accessible to folks with a bit of time and lots of resources.
My wife and I are new to sailing. We’ve spent four seasons in a daysailer and one season in a 1984 Sea Sprite 28 – a pocket cruiser perfectly suited to our home waters of Long Island Sound.
Our sailing adventures began alongside our parental adventures; we have two children under four. For us, sailing has almost always involved kids.
I got a kick out of your ‘Well Reefed Adventure’ (, October 2020). For my family to even entertain the notion of sailing longer distances and sleeping on board, I’ve had to learn and prove that our boat could be sailed comfortably in varying conditions.
