Interior designer Cheryl Luckett feels she has finally found her purpose. Throughout life, a number of signs pointed her to this career, but they often went unnoticed. The first was when the dorm room she decorated in college was used to tour prospective students; the second, when her first residence was featured in a local paper. Such incidents are evident to her in retrospect, but at the time her style remained only a hobby.
Things began to change after a decade of working at a Fortune 500 company. Cheryl was being tapped for opportunities to climb the corporate ladder but decided that she could not see herself working there in twenty years. Instead, she chose to pursue a passion, enrolling in a design class at the local community college and starting a blog, Dwell by Cheryl. Acquaintances who followed her online work began asking for help with their own projects, and the blog quickly snowballed into a business. Two years later, Cheryl began to devise an exit strategy from her corporate position, wanting to leave responsibly and with a secure future. “Project 36,” as she called it, took exactly three years to complete before culminating in her walking out the front doors and into her full-time creative career.
