Stepping into the local travel agent, I browsed through the brochures before finding someone to help me. ‘I’d like to book a trip,’ I announced bravely.

It was January 2017, and I was planning to take my first ever solo holiday away.

I was hoping to escape for some summer sun, but I’d never travelled alone before.

I was currently single and living alone – my daughter Daisy, 38, was grown-up with her own kids – so I was ready to take the leap.

‘Do you have anywhere in mind?’ the travel agent asked.

‘Just somewhere with some sun,’ I replied.

After discussing a few different holiday packages, I settled on one with Jet2 holidays.
