This issue’s piece stands as a tribute to the classical guitarist and lutenist Julian Bream OBE (1933-2020) who passed away this year. Bream’s contribution to the development and public appeal of the instrument is absolutely seminal. Son of a jazz guitarist (and a fan of Django Reinhardt himself), Bream received his first ‘Spanish guitar’ at the age of 11 which ignited a lifelong passionate dedication to the instrument as well as revealing a prodigious talent.
