‘THE DA WAS TRYING TOO HARD TO BE ANC LITE’

FOR weeks before the crucial moment his party would decide if he or his opponent would lead the Democratic Alliance, John Steenhuisen was getting about four hours sleep a night.

And a few days after he decisively beat Federal Youth Leader Mbali Ntuli for the top job with 80% of 2 000 delegates voting for him, there’s still no time to rest.

“I haven’t slept properly since two weeks ago,” John (44) says via a video call.

Although the race is over, there’s been no respite. After delivering his acceptance speech in Durban it was off to Joburg to help prepare for the by-election in Lenasia.
