AIR on a 3 string

“It’s only a Square on air,” says the laid back and upbeat Joe Pearson as we hang out in a nigh-on derelict part of Leicester. That it may be, but Joe’s vision for this tidy Type 3 stems from a long-held obsession with water-cooled VW Vans, which led him to screw together a couple of tasty, if fairly predictable, modified versions prior to his more recent enlightenment.

You see, for this 29-year old east midlander, the search for the ideal Square began a few years ago now – undoubtedly influenced by his better half, Kirsty, who’s a staunch believer in the air-cooled way of thinking.

“Kirsty’s car has been a massive influence on my choice,” Joe tells us, continuing, “Initially, I bought a Fastback, but that car left a lot to be desired and needed an awful lot of work to be at its best.”
