The Winning Boat
For those of you who have been following along my bream comp journey over the past few years, you would be well versed on what a steep learning curve it has been. I spent over 15 years away from tournament fishing and when I came back, more as a shot in the arm to help freshen up my fishing interests, I found the landscape had completely changed. Major advancements have been made in tackle and the range and variety of gear you can use is astounding. There is literally a different rod for every conceivable bream lure, reels with perfect retrieve ratios to help work a lure at its optimum speed and variety of lures that will make your head twist. It’s a mountain of knowledge to climb and then it’s knowing how and when to put it all into practice.
While this in itself has been a revelation, I feel the biggest advancement in bream fishing has been the boats. Like any tool the boat is the start of the delivery system in fishing and selecting the right tool is vital. Just recently I purchased my first US-built tournament-ready bass boat and it was this moment I realised the dramatic difference the right tool for the job makes.
