LIVERPOOL RETHINK

Premier League champions Liverpool are already being presented with plenty of new challenges in the 2020/21 season as they look to defend their first league title in 30 years.

Jürgen Klopp’s side have been rocked by a long-term injury to defensive leader Virgil van Dijk and an extraordinary, unexpected 7-2 drubbing at the hands of an Aston Villa—a side who were expected to be battling relegation this season.

This leaves them with a defensive dilemma, and should midfielder Fabinho drop into the back four, they will also need to rejig their midfield.

If these new challenges are to be met, onfield tactical tweaks are likely to be needed, especially with the transfer window closed until January.
