Kitchen collaborators

Publishing a cookbook is nothing new for Julie Biuso, but it is an unfamiliar and exciting endeavour for her daughter, Ilaria. Shared Kitchen is Biuso’s 17th cookbook and Ilaria’s first. They have cooked together since Ilaria, 28, was aged two, mashing bananas for a banana cake, and share many fond memories of being in the kitchen together.

Julie recalls Ilaria bursting through the kitchen door when returning from preschool each day and squealing, “What are ya cooking, Mama?”, as aromas wafted through the family home.

Time in Tuscany as a child, where she was indulged by her Italian relatives, left Ilaria with a deep appreciation of mealtimes – whether simply picking tomatoes from the garden to eat with oil and bread or sitting down for a Sunday lunch with the extended family.
