Filework can greatly embellish a knife and is a very painstaking, precision-minded art. One of the keys to the aesthetics of filework is its uniformity, perhaps even its symmetry, depending on the pattern. It can be very time consuming but when the work is done and the pattern comes together, it can be nothing less than jaw dropping.

Knifemaker Kevin Casey adorned the spine of the blade and back spacer with a variation of the rope pattern on his featured knife. He practices many different styles of file-work.
