Q :I need your expertise! I have a 1977 El Camino with a full-roller 355-cu.in. crate engine hooked to a 700-R4 overdrive automatic, and I have fought for months to get the engine running properly. The car has a new ProForm 750-cfm double-pumper-type carburetor, Mallory HEI distributor, 3.42 rear gears, an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator set to 7.5 psi, and the engine is set to 16 degrees initial timing (36 total, mechanical). The cam is .528/.539-inch lift with 230/236 duration at .050.
My issue is that the car shudders and chugs under light throttle, or if the rpm is less than 2,000 and I am applying light throttle.
Under heavy throttle, I rarely notice this issue. It does not present as
