What can we learn?

Jim Davis has 15,000 hours of immensely varied flying experience, including 10,000 hours civil and military flying instruction. He is an established author, his current projects being an instructors’ manual and a collection of Air Accident analyses, called ‘Choose not to Crash’.

Flight history

At approximately 0410 local time, the pilot, accompanied by a passenger, took off from Kimberley aerodrome in the Northern Cape on a private flight to Ladysmith aerodrome in KwaZulu-Natal.

During take-off, the aircraft was observed to perform abnormal maneuvers after which it nose-dived into the ground.

The aircraft erupted in fire during the initial impact and was destroyed as a result of the post-impact fire. There were no indications of any in-flight fire.
