Amateur-built Chinese Whispers

Over the past two to three months a number of our SAAA members have contacted us advising that CASA had advised their Part 141 organisation that they are unable to conduct flight reviews, CPL upgrades, IPC, PIFR training and renewals in their own EAB [Experimental Amateur-built] aircraft. CASA had certainly not instructed any Part 141 organisations so we don’t know where the rumour started.

When we asked about the reference being quoted, it was generally CAR 262AP (2) which is all about operating limitations for our experimental aircraft. When we said that training etc. is allowed for the owners under this regulation, it took some convincing other parts of the aviation industry.
