NUMBERS GAME

I read with interest Alasdair Mitchell’s comments about our shooting organisations (Do we sing as a choir — or several soloists?, 7 October). I was at the BASC AGM when the merger was discussed, and later as a council member, so I too now believe that we have moved beyond personality issues.

I think Alasdair’s idea of a federation is a good one and should be discussed. To avoid further bureaucracy, each organisation could appoint one paid member of staff to act in a liaison role for the federation, which members would automatically join.

As numbers count, the total could be impressive.
