TO MAKE WINDING sticks and a straight edge, I advise scratching through your wood stock to find some really attractive pieces for the builds. You can make them as fancy or plain as you wish. I usually choose the traditional and slightly fancy route, because it’s just more fun. There’s something to be said about making attractive, practical and functionally accurate tools; seeing them in your workshop gives you a sense of accomplishment. You’ve made them with your own two hands, and in the process you’ve honed your craft, and saved a lot of money.
