Japanese mushrooms

When I heard about a Japanese mushroom kit that can be grown easily in any kitchen, I must admit I was sceptical. So many ordinary mushroom kits I’ve tried just have not grown. But the new shiitake mushroom logs from Thompson & Morgan of Ipswich in Suffolk are something entirely different. The crop grows, and is really delicious.

The shiitake is a wild mushroom that grows on dead trees in Japan, where it has always been regarded as a great delicacy, and is very expensive. Efforts to cultivate it came to nothing until Dr Henry Mee worked out
