Honda’s announcement that it will withdraw from Formula 1 at the end of the 2021 season was not a surprise. The Japanese manufacturer refused to put a time line on its commitment to Formula 1 when it re-entered the category in 2015, and with the automotive world in flux due to falling sales, partly because of Covid but also uncertainty as to the future propulsion technology, its decision to leave F1 is the least risky option
