A DIFFERENT TAKE ON A GOODWOOD SPECIAL

Did it work? That was the main question posed on Sunday evening as the small number of people on-site drifted out of Goodwood. As a race weekend, undeniably yes. As a television spectacle, yes. And as an event? Discuss.

Goodwood does Events, capital E, brilliantly. It is whenfrom Local Hero. You could have heard a pin drop… The music played and the giant screens flitted between Knopfler and images of Moss. It was wonderfully done. What it lacked was the huge, respectful, applause at the end, not just a ripple from the few that were there. That was no-one’s fault; just current circumstances and Goodwood did an impressive job of making An Event, with a capital E, despite the limitations.
