Underfloor heating (UFH) has become almost the de facto standard for the self-builder. Putting it into a new build is simple, effective, relatively cheap and adds a touch of luxury; who doesn’t enjoy the feeling of walking over a warm floor, not to mention having walls that are suddenly free of radiators?
The next question is, can the same be said for a renovation project? Renovation does not offer the same blank canvas and there will always be issues and problems to overcome. In a renovation, installing UFH may not be a simple matter, and complications could push the price up. It can be difficult for a renovation to achieve the same level of energy efficiency as a new build and that could cast doubt over the effectiveness of UFH.
