‘AmaZulu must become giants’

Growing up, the only connection Sandile Zungu had with football was by virtue of being a staunch Orlando Pirates fan.

Zungu went on to play for the University of Cape Town as a centre forward through his tertiary years when he was studying for a BsC in Mechanical Engineering.

He admits to having been an “alright player” whose interest was always in seeking to get the ball at the back of the net and still enjoys a kick around on the five-a-side artificial turf that he has at his residence.

The eloquently spoken 53-year-old is the new president of AmaZulu after purchasing the 100% controlling stake from previous boss Dr Patrick Sokhela, who had been in charge 15 years ago through the Sokhela Family Trust and Ushukela Management Services. Sokhela initially bought Dynamos’ Premier Soccer League status for a reported R38 million in 2006 in a deal that involved trading Usuthu’s First Division franchise in the opposition direction.
