INGREDIENTS
For the biscuits
■ 150g (5oz) salted butter
■ 120g (4oz) soft brown sugar
■ 2 tsp black treacle
■ 2 tbsp beaten egg
■ 2 tbsp ground ginger
■ ¾ tbsp ground cinnamon
■ ¼ tsp ground cloves
■ 225g (8oz) plain flour
For the royal icing
■ 40g (1½oz) egg white (substitute with aquafaba for a vegan version)
