Taormina Italy

Nestling on top of a rocky promontory high above the Mediterranean lies the ancient town of Taormina. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the whole of the island, with visitors flocking there throughout the year eager to experience its beautifully restored medieval buildings and soak in its stunning views.

The jewel in its crown, though, is the open-air Teatro Antico. Built by the Greeks in the third century BC, it was expanded by the Romans to accommodate their more ambitious extravaganzas. With itsfollowed soon after by Orff’s from the choir and orchestra of the Teatro Massimo Vincenzo Bellini (above).
