DECEMBER 1877 Vienna gives Bruckner’s Third a wretched reception

Sunday 16 December 1877 was a day Anton Bruckner would never forget. He found himself standing on the podium in Vienna’s glittering Musikverein… with the orchestra having made a swift exit.
