VanDerbrink sells Iowa collection

CARLISLE, Iowa _ Over the weekend of Sept. 26-27, VanDerBrink Auctions conducted the sale of the Glen Meacham estate. Meacham, a life-long Carlisle, Iowa, native, World War II veteran, truck driver and farmer, had collected cars and Massey-Harris tractors for decades — along with a few other things that caught his fancy, such as three Indian motorcycles. He had collected for over five decades, and each car had a card inside that Meacham made up indicating where he bought it and when. One of the earliest was dated 1966, when he purchased his 1936 Ford Deluxe cabriolet.

Auctioneer Yvette VanDerBrink elected to split the sale into a two-day auction, primarily with tractors on Saturday, but also three vintage trucks. Sunday featured the motorcycles and cars. The weather in central Iowa during late September can be unpredictable, and Saturday proved to be a pleasant surprise. Instead of the forecast of sun and temperatures in the low 80s, it was lightly overcast and a pleasant mid-70s. Tractor sales were reasonable, and the truck sales were generally strong.
