Joseph DeAngelo appeared to be the model citizen.
Born in New York in 1945, he graduated from Folsom High School in Sacramento before joining the US Navy in September that same year.
He served his country for almost two years during the Vietnam War, losing part of a finger in the process.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal for his efforts.
From there, the veteran went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1972.
