CASTLE COMBE: CCRC AUTUMN CLASSIC BY PAUL LAWRENCE OCTOBER 3-4

NIMBLE LOTUS HELPS WOLFE AND HADDON TO HOLD ON IN THE RAIN

The rain and gloom at Castle Combe could not take the shine off an absorbing GT and Sports Car Cup enduro that closed Saturday’s racing. Victory for the Lotus Elan of Andrew Haddon andAndy Wolfe was just reward for 90 minutes of relentless effort from both drivers.

Sadly, the planned two-day event never happened as incessant rain and a waterlogged track meant that Sunday’s programme failed to even got started.

The wet and slippery conditions of the GTSCC race played to the strengths of the Elan but it took a faultless performance from both drivers to fend off a determined challenge from the Jaguar E-type of Gregor Fisken and Marino Franchitti.
