Kit Corner: Modelling HDL No. 1001: paint shop and the TS

FINISHING HDL No. 1001 was an enjoyable part of the project, seeing the real character of the train emerged with painting and final detailing. No. 1001 is a hybrid unit, not only because of its mix of Hastings DEMU trailers but through the use of two standard Mk.1 EMU trailers in the set from time to time.

Additional parts were required to finish a six-car set, including etched window frames and coach sides. Unfortunately, the run on model railway parts and components during the Covid-19 restriction period as modellers took advantage of aswathe of free time has seen many smaller suppliers struggling to meet demand, replace inventories and yet remain safe, making sourcing of some detailing parts difficult to locate or at least delayed.

Despite the chasing around for certain parts, particularly aset of MJT Components 4-BIG sides, the model could be finished to layout standard.

The buffet car was to be built as No. 69337 using sides from the MJT Components 4-BIG conversion kit, which is not currently available.
