LEVELLING UP

For all the talk around how the gaming industry has been booming in India as others crumbled during the Covid pandemic, some of the biggest developments in the Indian gaming industry actually occurred in August, just as the lockdown began to ease. The biggest of these was no doubt Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public endorsement of game development in India. Even though it came as part of a larger focus on growing India’s toy industry, it was the first time that gaming had become part of the nationalas part of a large wave of bans affecting Chinese-developed games and apps.
