WORDS BY LAEA MARSHALL
Taking a tiny hand in mine, I smiled. ‘Look at those cheeks,’ I grinned. Spending time with children always made me happy, and with my close friends starting to have kids of their own, I was surrounded by chubby cheeks, tiny toes, and happy smiles.
But as I bounced this new baby on my knee, my heart ached.
‘I really want one,’ I said to my husband Jon, now 39.
‘It’ll happen,’ he replied.
Jon and I had met in 2005 through mutual friends, had been together for years.
We got married in 2015, and, both wanting to be parents, we started trying for a baby right away.
At 35 years old, there was no time to waste.
