Natural beauty welcomes you at the top of the stairs when you enter the living area of this new beachfront home, and the matarazzo marble used in the kitchen is the ultimate complement to the view. Installing it was not without its challenges, though — the 1.4-tonne island required the floor joists of this multi-storey, architecturally designed home to be re-engineered so they could bear the weight.
‘Natural’, ‘classy’, ‘textural’, ‘luxurious’ and ‘relaxed’ were among the key words the owner of this property listed in their brief, and all these boxes have been ticked here. This kitchen has two personalities: by day, it’s earthy, calm and warm, capturing the all-day sun that makes melamine the ideal material for the cabinetry, offering better protection against fading than timber veneer. In the evening as the sun begins to set, the marble comes to life through the strategic placement of LED lighting that transforms this space into a sleek and sexy entertainer’s dream.
