NO HOPPING on a bus to go grocery shopping, no Bible study meetings and certainly no hugging grandchildren – lockdown life has been particularly difficult for older people because of the increased health risks they face due to Covid-19.
South Africa may have moved to level 2, which means more freedom of movement, but this has been a bittersweet time for the elderly. Now they’re allowed to see their loved ones – but doing so puts them in danger of getting the deadly disease. Yet the stark reality is this: many older people are suffering because of loneliness. And experts say it’s vital to find a way to keep them safe while ensuring they’re able to once again engage
