MOB tactics

Thanks Yachting Monthly for tackling the subject of MOB tactics (YM, Jan 2020). I have long worried about the MOB drills taught here in the San Francisco Bay, California, and feel they are just not practical in an area where we routinely have 25-knot-plus winds, very cold water temps, big currents and chop.

Reading your article has given me the chance to develop a MOB drill that fits the bill. The article was also really helpful as I’m one half of a ‘couple-only crew’, however I am a bit uncertain about one aspect: as part of the crash-tack and heave to process, you instruct to ‘dump the mainsheet’.
