Dear T&M,

I have reached that age when people ask me what I did in the war! I remember a Sunday in September 1939 when, as a choir boy in the church in Pangbourne, Berkshire, I heard the vicar announce that war had been declared between Britain and Germany. As a 10-year old lad I thought how strange it was to start a war on a Sunday!

A very good friend of mine in the same age group, Don Carnall, started work for Rotary Hoes Ltd. in 1945 as an apprentice
