THE OUTBACK WAY, THE GOLDFIELDS

From Uluru across the WA border to Laverton, the Outback Way is much more than a scenic shortcut through Australia’s largest red sand desert. There’s history and beauty and free camps galore, and despite the sometimes bone-rattling corrugations and the sky-high fuel prices, this 1000km-long offroad journey is a stellar adventure.

A 4WD lead vehicle is de rigueur, but sturdy conventional caravans will survive the drive, too.
