I think the single thing that helped me the most was seeing my GP and being referred for cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety and depression. Talking with a counsellor made me feel much better, and helped me understand that my problems weren’t that unusual for someone who had suffered a major career setback – even if that setback came out all right in the end. The practical, logical techniques she taught me helped me cope with my negative emotions, and see a way forward.
