MY ART WILL GO ON

Lovingly equipped with a handful of regional stereotypes, from Celine Dion to Justin Trudeau, maple syrup to poutine, I embark upon a seven-and-a-half-hour flight across the Atlantic to discover what other delicacies await me on the island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Upon arrival I notice that the “o” on the sign at Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport has been changed to a rainbow heart – the symbol of Fierté Montréal and a warm welcome to all international visitors for Montreal Pride.

What started almost 41 years ago as a march to mark the 10th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York City, Montreal’s Pride festival has since grown to become the largest event of its kind in the Francophone world.
