GETTING THE NEEDLE
After the prolonged dry spell when most things stopped growing the rain eventually came and the grass began to grow, and the hay fields looked greener.

So, one fine day I got the mower out from the back of the shed and checked the oil levels, sharpened the knives, and had a go. I have several fields to cut this year but the nearest is only up the road from where we are. Working on the principle that something is bound to break down first time out I decided to start up the lane. Cutting went fine with no hiccoughs so I dropped the cutter off and pulled the Lely Haymax spinner out of the nettles. That got the same treatment, a grease around, and check the tyres hadn’t gone flat since last year. I had fitted some new tines after I had finished with it last season so it was good to go. The sun was hot, plus a goodly warm breeze blowing and not a heavy crop I was able to go back after tea the same day and give the cut grass a wuffle. It
