BACK IN THE SPANNER MODE

Well, that’s haymaking over for another year with no major disasters, but it has shown up a few jobs that will need sorting this winter.

Old Dexta

A few problems on the old Dexta first, I think I have mentioned to you here before about the worn steering. It’s ok around the home but on the road, it has got so that now I have to push quite hard on the bottom of the drop arms with both feet when travelling to try to control the wobbling as I go down the road.

It showed up this year as the new hayfield I rented is ten miles away, and a good part of the journey is along narrow roads with a hulking deep drain at the side of the road. In some places, there is hardly any verge and all I can see when towing the baler is a wobbling front wheel only a foot or so from a 20-foot drop. So that will be the first job, remove the steering box and give it a full rebuild with any new parts it needs.

Off the gauge

Another thing that needs attention is the engine cooling.
