The life-span of the Sapphire RS Cosworth has reached an interesting point. There are today two distinct groups of fans clamouring for them: on the one hand, you’ve got the old-school Ford lovers who grew up around these cars, and spent the Eighties and Nineties tearing up and down the UK’s seafronts in hot RS models.

On the other hand, there’s a moneyed generation of collectors who are bracketing the Saph Cossie in with other firebrand Blue Ovals of the era – these cars are passing out of the so-called modern classic territory and into the realm of the fully fledged classic.

This is a little bit unsettling for people who spent their formative years ragging them around, and can still kind of remember seeing them
