The Great Working of Steam Engines 1972 PART 1

The Great Working of Steam Engines at Stourpaine Bushes became known just as “Stourpaine” to the regulars, then later, due to a change of site, as The Great Dorset Steam Fair (GDSF) or just “Dorset.” The rally needs no introduction as most people have heard of it even if they have never attended. The first steam gatherings of the newly formed Dorset Steam & Historic Vehicle Club were held in Ted Hine’s garden at Gillingham, he was vice-president of the recentlyformed club and the first rally was held in September 1969 at Stourpaine Bushes. Michael Oliver was vice-chairman of the club and event secretary. Other familiar names involved were Giles ‘Doc’ Romanes as president and Stephen Hubbuck as a committee member.
