Little did Eric Holmberg, KC1FGY, realize when he entered the hobby in 2016 that it would take him down the path (or trail) less traveled. As a native of New Hampshire, tramping the trails of the Granite State is part of his earliest and fondest memories. Today a favorite pastime of Eric and his wife, Shianne, is hiking the trails to one of the 48 summits located in the state that are at least 4,000 feet in elevation.1

Quick studies, both Eric and Shianne, KC1FGX, were licensed within a week of learning about amateur radio. Soon their QTH near Newfound Lake had an assortment of vertical, loop, and Yagi antennas and Eric’s truck was outfitted with mobile antennas as well. However, he found their valley location left a lot to be desired when operating on his favorite bands: 2 meters and 222 MHz. Before too long, he started packing his 5-watt
