The gun was cleaned, oiled and safely locked away. Three months of accumulated mud had been scraped off the truck. Boots were oiled and frayed laces were replaced. All was in readiness for the next trip to the mountain, but that would be sometime in the future. As I mulled over the reality of the lengthy hiatus between the recently completed turkey hunting season and the opening of the next opportunity to go after gobblers, my thoughts drifted to past turkey hunting adventures. There was one that remained particularly clear in my mind.
It was getting late
