Our kidneys work hard to help our bodies to function at their best, but how much thought do you give them on a day-to-day basis? Here, we get the lowdown on our body’s silent superheroes.
What are kidneys?
This pair of dark-red, bean-shaped organs are roughly the size of your fist, and sit just below your ribcage at the back.
Why do we need them?
Kidneys filter blood, remove toxins and waste, and send(£14, Orion Spring). ‘Your kidneys keep stock of vitamins and hormones and are relatively low-maintenance.’ And, with around 1,500 litres of blood passing through them every day, they’re kept pretty busy.
