Robert Wise’s adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s novel The Haunting Of Hill House remains the quintessential haunted-house film. Wise weaponises the viewer’s own imagination in ways that still haven’t been improved upon. A haunted-house story that doesn’t need to show you a ghost to terrify you.
