Significant life events tend to focus your attention on where you want to go and what you want to accomplish as a writer. These milestones provide an opportunity to decide how to create your writing life and career anew in the future.

I celebrated my 60th birthday this year. Not surprisingly, this milestone caused me to re-evaluate my writing goals for the foreseeable future. I pulled out a list of all my nonfiction book ideas and thought long and hard about which ones I still want to pursue. Additionally, I considered my early career goals and if I want to focus time and energy on them in the next few years. A good look at where my writing career has taken me also helped me determine where I want to go.
