Leica Camera AG was founded in Germany by Ernst Leitz GmbH, a German corporation now divided into three independent companies. These are Leica Camera, a manufacturer of camera and sports optics equipment; Leica Geosystems, a manufacturer of geodetic equipment; and Leica Microsystems, a manufacturer of microscopes and owner of the Leica brand in 1869. The name Leica is derived from the first three letters of the surname, combined with the first two from the word ‘camera’.
Leica Vision states the following: “With premium and customer-orientated solutions, we observe, reach for and keep unforgettable moments in our world.” Their mission statement declares that “Based on a strong brand, we offer premium solutions with indisputable quality. This is the foundation of our heritage for a successful future, and to be the first choice for our customers worldwide.”

They have the glass, the engineering capability, and the wheel (angular measurements) have essentially been invented. However, they needed more adjustment range, and better reticles and turrets.
